Spleen Energy and Your Child

Here is an introduction to the concept of spleen energy and your child which comes from the Chinese medicine system. I want to give you some background information as well as some examples in this video that I think all parents need to know.

My goal in making this video is to describe how the evaluation and treatment of your child can be enhanced by using this concept of the spleen energy subcircuit to describe what’s going on with your child and some of the nuances of the particular influence the spleen energy has in young children from birth to around 5 years old. This is the type of discussion I have with parents in my own practice, and I want to share some of this perspective with you.

Lung Energy and Your Child

Lung Energy and Your ChildUsing the Chinese Medicine system for evaluating children’s “Lung Energy” (which includes such respiratory conditions as allergies, asthma, even eczema, etc), often offers explanations as well as treatment options unavailable in the western medical approach.

Lung and upper respiratory related symptoms make up a large proportion of the reasons parents take their kids to see the doctor. But rather than just focusing on this one part of your child’s system, I have found that it is important to look at the whole picture, especially certain correlations that come from the Chinese medicine perspective.

In this video, we will explore and discuss the lung energy and your child in a simple and straight-forward way. The content of this video is taken from the conversations I have had with parents over the years in my own practice. I think this information is valuable as a means to understand what’s going on with your child. This is something that all parents need to know.

If your child has symptoms or a condition related to the lung or respiratory system in any way, this information will give you a different perspective than you may have had up until now. This video gives information that is a good example of how your child’s system has multiple inter-related parts that work together simultaneously, not as independent pieces operating by themselves. This is one of the greatest strengths of the Chinese medicine system and the energy medicine point of view.

The Living Matrix: Information as Medicine

the living matrix, information as medicine, energy medicineI am a pragmatist, and my medical training and education in general has taught me to look for consistency in one’s position and particularly across many diverse fields and subjects. This is the one way that the “truth” can be strived for when the waters are muddy and the conflicting viewpoints are more numerous than the concurrent ones.

It is clear from my perusal of the literature and my own exploration of such diverse fields as music, medicine, physics, life sciences, mathematics, social structures, politics, and even spirituality and religion, that the overriding consistent theme among all of these is that we are energy based beings, with vibration and energy signatures at the very core of our existence, and within our universe we are engaged in the human experience as individuals.

I see this consistency overwhelming the old paradigm of Newtonian physics and the dependence on physical explanations for everything under the sun. Indeed, this outdated way of thinking will soon be gone, especially as our methods of measurement of such things as the human energy field, functional magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, the frequency of vibration of our very own DNA strands, and the electromagnetic field characteristics of our own heart energy system show the general public in no uncertain terms that these energy descriptions are real. Since we live in a society governed by personal choices, it is no surprise that certain segments of our population have chosen to ignore these findings for many years now. My contention is that this microfocused view will not last long, as more and more people gain access to this information.

Here is the trailer to the movie called The Living Matrix. I recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about energetics and what it means for medicine, science, and our daily lives. Even in my lifetime so far, many things I learned or was taught in medical school and elsewhere have had to undergo “revision” in light of new information and our continuously expanding knowledge base. The movie was made in the style of such films as “What the bleep to we know” and “The Secret”. I think it is very well done and worth a look.

If you are interested in seeing the whole movie I know you can order it from the website like I did at TheLivingMatrixMovie.com

What’s Age Got To Do With It?

I’ve started to put up pages on my website Principles for Parents that address the different age ranges that your child is likely to be in right now.

One of the things I have learned in my practice is just how important your child’s age is as far as how they view the world, themselves, and their life experiences. I’ve started with the prenatal time period and I’m now moving into the toddler age range.

The most important concept I want to convey to you is that we have to take into account your child’s age both currently and historically. What I mean is: the age your child was when some significant event or experience took place has a tremendous influence on how they have stored the memory of that event. An even more crucial point is that their brain is likely to associate many varied factors along with the event or experience and this can lead to misconceptions and beliefs about the world that may not be true. This in turn can cause energy expenditures on your child’s part that will interfere with how their body and system functions as a whole.

Here’s an example. Let’s say your child was in the car when you had a minor car accident. Everyone was fine afterward but it left you and your child pretty shaken up. If your child is less than 5 years old, it is very likely they will interpret this event as kind of a surprise or shock to their system. However, the end result may be to associate being in the car with ongoing or imminent danger. This can lead to inordinate amounts of energy being expended by your child whenever they are in the car. Since this kind of experience is equated with survival, you can see how difficult it can be for them to resolve or reconcile the need to expend energy on this versus other needs of their energy system.

I think it is well worth the time to explore this with you as the parent because you are the one who can most help and influence your child. As with many other things, the earlier one intervenes and corrects an energy imbalance the sooner and more complete the resolution will be for your child.

You can read more about this topic of how I relate the importance of your child’s age in the context of their overall evaluation on the age ranges page on my website.

Growth and Development in Kids

momdaughterIn the energy medicine system, growth and development is an extremely important category which demands energy expenditures depending on the age of the child. I tend to take more of a macro view of medicine and the world, so my explanations may be foreign compared to what you have heard before. In this way I will approach common pediatric topics and just give my current perspective, having practiced as a general pediatrician for several years, and now practicing in a decidedly “alternative” style.
